A repair estimate (Kostenvoranschlag) isn't a full appraisal (Gutachten); it's an estimate for minor damage under €700. Within that range it works for settling with the insurer. Depending on the damage you may need a full appraisal; in that case an appraiser inspects it on site.

What's a repair estimate (Kostenvoranschlag)?
A repair estimate is a breakdown of what the repair is likely to cost. It lists every job and part your car needs, each with a price. We put it together with specialised software that follows the manufacturer's specs, including your brand garage's hourly rates and genuine parts prices. With our estimate you can either get your car fixed or have the damage paid out.
How does SchadenCHECK work?
With SchadenCHECK you put together your estimate for the insurer yourself, easily and online. One tap on „Start SchadenCHECK“ walks you through it: you send us a few photos and, so we can reach you, your name, a phone number and an email. It takes under 5 minutes. Then we look over your case, work out the damage and get back to you as fast as we can to talk through the next steps together.
Why SchadenCHECK and not the other side's insurer?
As tempting as it is to let the other side's insurer handle everything, we'd strongly advise against it. An appraiser hired or paid by the other party's insurer tends to look out for the insurer's interests, not yours. That's how the damage ends up valued too low. We're free, independent appraisers: neutral, and not tied to any insurer.
What info do you need, and why?
We take your privacy seriously and only ask for what we genuinely need to work out your damage correctly and fast. That's the VIN (it tells us your car's optional extras) and the number plate, plus your contact details so we can reach you. Our servers are in Germany, and your data is deleted once the job's done.
How do you calculate the damage?
Our appraiser builds the calculation from the details you send and the damage we can see in the photos. We factor in every optional extra, the latest parts prices, the manufacturer's specs and the hourly rates of the relevant brand garage. We work with the newest calculation tools like SilverDAT and Eurotax Schwacke.
Can I get the money paid out to me?
Absolutely. Having the damage paid out is what insurers call a „notional settlement“. You can take the payout based on our estimate and spend it however you like: do a partial repair, or fix it yourself. In that case the insurer pays net, i.e. without VAT. The alternative is a settlement based on actual costs, when you have it repaired at a garage. With our estimate, either works.
I'm not sure if it was my fault?
A knock in a car park or during a lane change? These often end up 50:50 for both sides. Even then, the insurer needs an estimate first to know how much the damage is and get the case moving. Our free SchadenCHECK has you covered in these cases too.
Is the estimate really free?
